How the gallery works

The public gallery automatically shows animals whose status is Available and who haven't been hidden with the Hide from adopt page toggle. No manual publishing required -- when you change an animal's status to Available, they appear in the gallery within a few seconds. When they're adopted, transferred, or their status changes, they drop off automatically.

The gallery is public and indexed by search engines. Your org's gallery URL is fosterling.io/r/your-slug. You can also embed the gallery on your own website (see below).

What adopters see on each listing

• Primary photo (and additional photos if uploaded)
• Name, species, breed, age, and sex
• Short description (the animal's public bio -- editable from the animal record)
• Special tags you've added (e.g., "Good with kids", "Senior-friendly")
• Your rescue's name and contact info
• An Apply button that opens your adoption application form

Sensitive fields (microchip number, internal notes, medical records, intake source) are never shown publicly.

Showing or hiding an animal on the adopt page

If an animal is Available but shouldn't appear publicly yet (e.g., they're newly arrived and not photographed, or on a courtesy hold):

   Open the animal's record.

   On the Profile tab, click Hide from adopt page. The button toggles to Show on adopt page once hidden.

   The animal is immediately removed from the public gallery. They remain in your internal pipeline as Available.

Adoption applications from the gallery

When someone clicks Apply on a gallery listing, they complete your adoption application form (configured under Forms). Applications land in your Adoptions hub under the animal's Applications tab, and you'll receive a notification email.

If you haven't published a custom adoption form, the Apply button falls back to a built-in generic adoption-inquiry form that emails your rescue directly -- adopters can always apply, even before you've configured anything. Enable your own form under Forms > Adoption application to collect the exact fields you want.

Gallery filters

The gallery automatically provides filters for species (dog, cat, rabbit, etc.), sex, age range, size, and breed, plus "good with kids", "good with dogs", and "good with cats" -- all based on what's actually in your listings. No configuration needed -- filters appear as soon as you have animals that match different values.

Embedding the gallery on your website

   Go to Settings > Connected services (Integrations tab) and find the Public adoption feeds card.

   Copy the embed code snippet.

   Paste it into your website's HTML where you want the gallery to appear. The gallery loads in an iframe and inherits your Fosterling branding.

The same Public adoption feeds card also gives you a Petfinder XML feed, an Adopt-a-Pet CSV, a RescueGroups CSV, and a JSON feed -- handy if you list your animals on those sites or want to pull your data into another tool.

Can I require a login before someone sees the gallery?

No -- the public gallery is always public. If you need a fully private listings page, use the Foster portal instead (foster-only access via magic link).

How do I change the URL of my public gallery?

Go to Settings → Branding & microsite and edit your org's slug. Note that changing it breaks any existing shared links.

Can adopters save favorite animals or come back to an application in progress?

There's a real adopter account system -- a visitor can create a free account at fosterling.io/saved to save (heart) animals and get email alerts on new matches, across the whole Fosterling network, not just your rescue's own page. There's no way to resume an application already in progress, though; applications themselves are still submitted in one session.

Do sanctuary animals or foster-only animals appear in the gallery?

No -- only animals with status Available appear. Sanctuary residents and animals in Foster status are excluded automatically.

Can I show the gallery in multiple languages?

Not yet -- the gallery uses the language of the animal's description as you wrote it. Localization is on the roadmap.
