Fosterling's AI features are built to handle the paperwork so your team can focus on the animals. Every AI feature is optional, org-scoped, and designed to be reviewed by a human before anything is saved.
What the AI can do

Intake form → AI fill buttonFeed the AI anything — a photo, vet record PDF, surrender email, voice note, a URL, or a form submission. It extracts species, breed, sex, age, color, weight, microchip, and temperament. You review before saving.

Every AI-generated result is a draft, not a commit. Intake fill pre-populates fields — you review and save. Cross-post bios open in an editor — you publish. The copilot asks for confirmation before writing to records. Nothing the AI generates is persisted until a human approves it.
How AI credits work
Each AI action (an intake fill, a bio draft, a copilot response) uses one AI credit from your org's monthly allotment. Credits are shared across your whole team — it doesn't matter which team member triggers the AI. Your current usage is shown in Settings > Billing > AI usage.
The Rescue and Shelter plans include a generous monthly credit allowance suited to typical rescue volume. If you consistently hit the limit, contact support — we can adjust it for high-volume orgs.
What model does Fosterling use?
All AI features run on Google Gemini through Fosterling's AI infrastructure. You don't need a Google account or API key — it's built in. Fosterling does not use OpenAI or other providers.
Your org's data (animal records, notes, memory) is used only to answer your team's requests. It is not used to train models or shared with other organizations.
Privacy and data
AI requests are scoped to your org. The copilot's memory, learned preferences, and any context sent to the AI are stored under your org ID and are never accessible to other orgs. Fosterling does not send personally identifiable information (adopter names, addresses, donor data) to the AI model — only the animal and operational context needed to answer your question.
- Can I turn off AI features for my org?
- Individual AI buttons can be ignored — they're never triggered automatically. There's no org-level kill switch, but nothing AI-powered runs without an explicit user action.
- What happens if the AI makes a mistake?
- Because every AI result is a draft that a human reviews before saving, mistakes don't auto-commit to your records. If a saved AI-assisted record has an error, edit it normally — there's no special AI correction process.
- Does the copilot have access to donor information?
- The copilot can access animal records, medical notes, fosters, contacts, and shifts — the operational data your team works with day-to-day. It can't read inventory stock levels (it'll point you to the Inventory page for that), and it does not have access to raw financial records or full donor history.
- Can volunteers use the AI features?
- Volunteers can use the Ops Copilot for tasks within their role (checking shift schedules, asking questions). Intake fill and bio drafting require Coordinator or Admin access since those actions touch animal records.
