These are the places Fosterling drafts something for you instead of making you type it. Each one is optional, you always see the result before it is saved, and nothing runs unless you ask for it.

Every AI-generated result is a draft, not a commit. Intake fill pre-populates fields - you review and save. Cross-post bios open in an editor - you publish. The copilot asks for confirmation before writing to records. Nothing the AI generates is persisted until a human approves it.
How AI credits work
Each drafting action (an intake fill, a bio draft, a copilot reply) uses one AI credit from your org’s monthly allotment. Credits are shared across your whole team - it doesn’t matter which team member triggers the AI. A running count ("X / Y AI credits used this month") shows up right inside tools like the intake fill dialog once you’re getting close to your limit, so you’ll see it in context rather than having to check a separate page.
Even the free Solo plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and Rescue and Shelter step up to a much larger allowance suited to typical rescue volume. Network is unlimited. If you consistently hit the limit, contact support - we can adjust it for high-volume orgs.
What model does Fosterling use?
Every AI feature you interact with directly - intake fill, cross-post bios, the Ops Copilot’s replies, social post drafting, AI-drafted forms - runs on Google Gemini through Fosterling’s AI infrastructure. You don’t need a Google account or API key - it’s built in.
One background piece works differently: the Ops Copilot’s long-term memory search uses a small OpenAI embedding model to find relevant past notes by meaning, not just keywords. It never generates any text you read - it only ranks which saved memories to pull into a Gemini prompt - and if it’s ever unavailable, the copilot falls back to a normal keyword/recency search instead of failing.
Your org’s data (animal records, notes, memory) is used only to answer your team’s requests. It is not used to train models or shared with other organizations.
Privacy and data
AI requests are scoped to your org. The copilot’s memory, learned preferences, and any context sent to the AI are stored under your org ID and are never accessible to other orgs. Fosterling does not send personally identifiable information (adopter names, addresses, donor data) to the AI model - only the animal and operational context needed to answer your question.
- Can I turn off AI features for my org?
- There's no org-level switch, but nothing here runs on its own - every one of these needs somebody to press a button or ask the copilot.
- What happens if the AI makes a mistake?
- Every result is a draft you review before saving, so mistakes don't commit themselves. If a saved record has an error, edit it the normal way.
- Does the copilot have access to donor information?
- The copilot works with animal records, medical notes, fosters, contacts, supplies, kennels, and shifts. With a finance role it can also open fund cases, record payouts, and draft broadcasts. It does not touch your Fosterling subscription or billing settings.
- Can volunteers use the AI features?
- Yes. Intake fill and bio drafting are available to any team member with app access, including Volunteers -- there's no role gate on those actions. The Ops Copilot's write tools are role-gated by what they touch: logging a medical note needs Vet, Coordinator, or Admin access, while updating an animal's status or scheduling/assigning a shift needs Coordinator or Admin. Volunteers can still use the copilot to ask questions and check shift schedules.
