Fosterling vs. Pawlytics: Which Fits Your Rescue?
Compare Pawlytics and Fosterling on pricing, foster workflows and adoption tools, with a fair look at where each fits and what to check before switching.
If you're choosing software for a foster-based rescue, Pawlytics belongs on your list. It is built for foster-based rescues and animal shelters, with pet records, applications and people management in one place. Fosterling covers many of the same everyday jobs.
This post is written by the Fosterling team. We've tried to be fair, including about where Pawlytics may suit your team better. Competitor details below were checked against Pawlytics' public website in November 2026.
The short version
- Pawlytics offers rescue software with pricing based on combined adoptions and signed e-contracts. Its published plans include all features, customer support and future upgrades. It is worth a close look if custom applications and partner-to-partner record transfers are central to your work.
- Fosterling is free forever for up to 25 animals in your care at a time, with no card needed. Adopted animals don't count. Staff seats are unlimited on every plan. The Rescue plan is $39/month. It is a good fit if you want a foster portal, a public lost and found board and an assistant for everyday admin.
Pricing side by side
Pricing checked November 2026. Pawlytics publishes its tiers on its pricing page, with billing details in its cost guide.
| Pawlytics | Fosterling | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting option | Free trial, followed by usage-based introductory billing | Free forever for up to 25 animals in care; no card needed |
| Paid pricing | Small: $29/month; Medium: $49/month; Large: $1 per adoption and $1 per signed e-contract | Rescue: $39/month |
| What determines the tier | Combined adoptions and signed e-contracts: 0 to 24, 25 to 49, or 50 and above | The free plan counts animals currently in care, not adopted animals |
| Team access | Unlimited users | Unlimited staff seats on every plan |
These are different ways of measuring a rescue. Pawlytics counts adoptions and signed e-contracts separately, so an adoption with a signed contract can contribute two billable events. Its cost guide describes three introductory months at $1 per adoption and $1 per signed e-contract after the free trial, then tier placement based on average use. Tiers are reviewed every six months, and a busy month can revert to per-event billing. Check their pricing page and cost guide against your own activity before budgeting.
For a small team, Pawlytics' published Small tier is below Fosterling's Rescue plan price. If you have 25 or fewer animals in care, though, Fosterling's free plan may already cover what you need. These prices were checked in November 2026.
What both do well
Pawlytics describes these workflows on its features page and in its product demo guide. Both products cover:
- Animal records, medical information and attached documents
- People records for adopters and fosters
- Applications and adoption agreements
- Petfinder publishing
- Access for the whole team without a per-user limit
The useful question is how those jobs feel in your rescue. Try one animal record, one application and one completed adoption before moving the whole team.
Where Pawlytics is ahead
- Transfers within its network. Pawlytics documents pet-data transfers between Pawlytics accounts. If your regular partner rescues already use it, that is a concrete reason to try it first.
- Custom application intake. Its features page describes fully custom forms that can be embedded or shared, with submissions creating and updating people records. That is worth testing if your current intake process involves a lot of retyping.
- A potentially lower paid starting point. As checked in November 2026, its published Small tier is $29/month. Read the billing rules rather than assuming every month will cost the base amount.
Where Fosterling stands out
A free plan without a countdown
Fosterling is free forever for up to 25 animals in care, with no card needed. Adopted animals don't count, and staff seats are unlimited on every plan. You can keep your adoption history without using up those active-care places.
A portal for foster homes
Fosters get their own portal to send updates, with no staff login needed. Capacity, preferences and current placements stay together so the coordinator can see who is caring for whom.
Public tools that work today
Public adoption pages and ready-made Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet feeds are available now. The public lost and found board cross-matches reports by description, location and microchip. See the lost and found board.
Help with the everyday admin
Ops Copilot can help you check what's due this week or set a reminder. Donations through Stripe and spreadsheet import are available too, so you can start with your existing records rather than retype them.
These are reasons to try Fosterling, not claims that Pawlytics lacks an equivalent. Ask each team to show you the workflow that matters to your rescue.
Which one should you pick?
Pawlytics is a good fit if your partner organizations already use it, custom application workflows are a priority, or its activity-based billing suits your adoption volume.
Fosterling is a better fit if you:
- have up to 25 animals in care and need a lasting free option,
- want foster updates through a dedicated portal,
- need public adoption pages and a community lost and found board,
- want an assistant to help with routine admin.
You don't need to move every record to make a sensible choice. Start free, import a small spreadsheet and walk through a normal day with your team.
